UW's Huskies Return to Selah's Carlon Park

For the second year in a row, the University of Washington Huskies will take on a local opponent at the renowned Carlon Park complex. UW will take on the famed Boise State Broncos on Friday, September 19th at 6.00 pm.

The Hukies will also be hosting a clinic on Saturday, September 20th. The pitching clinic is from 11.00-1.00 for ages 8-12 and 8.30-10.30 for ages 13-18. The hitting clinic times are 8.30-10.30 (ages 8-12) and 11.00-1.00 (ages 13-18). Space is limited, so contact Bill Harris (509-961-1588) or Greg Cuillier (509-952-9443) soon!




Grid Kids and Mtn. Northwest Football Team Up!

The Yakima Valley Grid Kids and Mountain Northwest Football have formed an unprecedented partnership to bring a Youth Football Jamboree to Marquette Stadium on August 16th and 17th. Teams from across the state and Oregon will participate in this scrimmage style preseason contest.

July 28th is the first official day for the Grid Kids. If you haven't sought out a team yet make sure you seek one by going to Yakima Valley Grid Kids for more information. Also check out Mountain Northwest Football to make sure your team is in the first ever youth football tournament held in our esteemed Valley.




Standish First Ever Repeat Winner for Athlete of the Year

The Yakima Valley Sports Commission, the Yakima Herald-Republic, KIMA-TV, Pepsi, and adidas join together to honor the top student athletes in all 20 high school sports.

At the 2008 Yakima Valley Sports Awards Luncheon held on June 03, Kayla Standish became the first two time Athlete of the Year winner. She also captured the award in 2006 as a sterling Sophomore.

The small town of Prosser was the other standout at the 6th annual event. Not only did the Prosser football team win the Overall Team of the Year, but head coach Tom Moore was named Jack Cleveland Coach of the Year and Cody Bruns was selected as Male Athlete of the Year.

Over 550 people attended the 2008 Yakima Valley Sports Awards Luncheon on June 7th.

Grey Rock Trail Run is Home to the Toughest 50K

Awaken all of your senses at the 4th Annual Tampico Grey Rock 50K Trail Run on July 12, 2008. The run winds you over and through noted landmarks such as White's Ridge, Foundation Ridge, Grey Rock Trailhead, and Ewe Neck. Participants will rise and fall over 6,000 feet of elevation, and you are sure to see Mt. Adams and Mt. Rainier. Tampico is a mere 30 miles from Yakima, and the run is hosted by the Ahtanum Valley Museum. Go to www.ahtanumvalleymuseum.org for more information.




Adult State Open Invitational at Gateway Headlines 2008 Softball Schedule

The ASA Softball Season is about to kickoff at Kiwanis Fields at the Gateway Sports Complex. Men can knock the rust off their game on April 4-6 with the Early Bird tournament. New to the Gateway Complex Calendar this year are the ASA State Adult Open Invitational along with two girls fastpitch tournaments, the Dry-out Tournament (held in conjunction with Carlon Park in Selah) and the 10U A/B Regional Tournament.

One of the states finest softball complexes, Gateway, is professionally operated by the Yakima Parks and Recreation Department.
